Gallery - The Lyon Court

From time to time, the Lord Lyon chooses to exercise his judicial function in open court, thus allowing the public to view something of the workings of his ancient office.  In 2016, a public sitting of the Lyon Court was held in the Court of Session in Edinburgh in February, during which some petitions were granted and three new pursuivants installed; in August of the same  year, Lyon held a Court in the Burgh Court, Glasgow, making several grants and decisions in the presence of the XXXII International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Sciences.  The most recent of these “Head” Courts took place  in Dundee Sheriff Court in December 2017: again some new grants were made, including one to the Guildry of Dundee, and two Officers of Arms were promoted.
