The Lyon Office is where the petitions are received, interlocutors granted and letters patent and extracts of matriculation prepared on vellum by the herald artists and calligraphers, who also make copies of all grants and matriculations in the registers which date from 1672. The Lyon Office also stores many historic books and manuscripts, including the famous Forman-Workman Manuscript dating from the 1560s, as well as housing the Chancery of the Order of the Thistle.
